Should I put a VPN on my Fire Stick?

I’ve been using the Fire Stick for a couple of weeks now for all my shows, movies and sports. Am I being reckless by not using a VPN?

Also, since the Fire Stick is plugged into the TV, should I put a VPN on the TV too, or just on the fire stick is enough?

Depends on your need. here is the guide might help you to decicde : https://firestickhacks.com/why-you-need-a-vpn-for-firestick/

If you are on this subreddit I’m gonna go with yes, you need to be using vpn.

I can really recommend to check this spreadsheet out if anyone is looking for one to use!

If it works without VPN you leave it like that. Only when your ISP starts throttling your connection, you use VPN. Depends on the country where you reside. Some countries they throttle during main events. In other places they use other occasions or times.
There still is a possibility, that your provider is blacklisted. In that case, you need to contact them…
No need for VPN on your TV if you have it on your firestick. The firestick is the receiver and the tv is no more than the display

@Wilder
That should be illegal

What? It should be illegal for our ISPs to throttle our internet. idk why I got 6 downvotes :joy:

Should use a VPN. I use windscribe.

Some firestick apps are based on torrents. Some IPTV subscriptions are not 100% legal.

Those reasons alone are enough to use a VPN and protect yourself.

You meant to say 100% of IPTV is illegal

@Finnian
I thought there my be some legal ones out there like Pluto, tubi. Or maybe those aren’t considered IPTV…

I’ve had teatv on mine for about 4 years now and no VPN. Don’t think they care anymore but who knows. I’ve never been contacted by my ISP

No. Unless your country specifically blocks you from certain usages of the Internet you do not need a VPN for real Debrid or IPTV. For some reason 90% of the Internet thinks you need s VPN. It is all fear mongering. You need a VPN only if you are using a torrent manager like qbitorrent or uTorrent. Real Debrid and IPTV come from private servers that are not easily tracked unless you’re being specifically targeted by cyber security professionals. You are not being targeted, trust me. Yes many real Debrid links say “torrent” but that just means its original file is coming from a torrent, but the whole point of real Debrid is that real Debrid takes the risk torrenting it, and then you download directly from their servers which is completely safe. On the basically impossible occasion that your ISP sends you an email that your streaming illegal stuff, you can get a VPN after that, but that won’t happen if you’re not directly torrenting with a torrent client like uTorrent or qbitorrent.

@Basil
I’ve gotten multiple letters from 2 different ISPs for exactly that.

Either way, for what a VPN costs, I don’t risk it anymore. I was lucky and got a lifetime membership for windscribe when they first started and it was definitely money well spent IMO.

@Farrell
You torrented didn’t you. Don’t lie to me. I have rawdogged the Internet my whole life and the only time ISP has given me a warning is when torrenting, and I’ve heard dozens of people tell me the same story.

@Basil
Lol why would I lie? What do I have to gain? If it works for you then that’s great. Happened to me more than once, and even setting up iptv on a paid 3rd party subscription for my ex-inlaws and they got a letter, too. I’ve rawdogged the Internet plenty of times and never had issues, and then over random things I’ve gotten a letter. So I just don’t risk it anymore. Wasn’t worth the headache for me.

Why bother. They try and gimmick you if you watch pay per view stuff for free. No one would or could chase this down. If they did they would send a cease and disist letter. Then get vpn.

Agreed. No one is coming to get you for watching tv.

@Hale
Exactly, they are after the ones who are putting out the content.

They tried going after individuals 20 years ago and it was a waste of their time. It didn’t have a chilling effect and it didn’t stop anyone. People just quit using Napster.
