Hello, I recently purchased ProtonVPN for its port forwarding capabilities.
However, I’ve discovered that when I rejoin to the same server, a different port is allocated. So, since ProtonVPN allocates a new port every time I boot up my computer, do I need to update the port in qBittorrent?
I am also wondering whether I need to add this port to my router. It seems difficult to copy the port, paste it into qBittorrent, log in to my router, then open this port every time I boot up my PC.
Yes, the port changes each time you connect to the VPN, therefore make the necessary modifications in qBittorent. It is not difficult to create an automated solution in qBittorrent that reads the forwarded port and sets the listening port. I don’t know how it works on Windows.
I’m quite confident you don’t need to touch your router, but I’d test to be sure. For example, use https://canyouseeme.org.
Yo, I feel your pain. ProtonVPN’s port forwarding is nice, but yeah, the fact that they assign a new port every time you reconnect is kinda annoying. Unfortunately, you will need to update the port in qBittorrent every time, but as for adding it to your router—nah, that part shouldn’t be necessary unless your router is extra strict about blocking stuff.
That’s exactly why I stopped using ProtonVPN for torrenting, bro. The constant port changing was a hassle! It’s secure, but I don’t have time to update my qBittorrent settings every day. You might want to check out Mullvad VPN. They support port forwarding too, and it’s a lot more consistent.
