I have T-Mobile Internet, and because of CGNAT, I can’t stream video from my Plex server to my phone or iPad when I’m gone. I tried Tailscale on both my NVidia Shield Pro and iPhone, but it didn’t work. Wouldn’t NordVPN’s meshnet functionality do the same thing? I already pay for NordVPN, so utilizing Tailscale seems superfluous given that Nord’s platform has this capability.
I’m simply hoping something will work so that I can access my media collections remotely. It would be ideal if NordVPN or Tailscale could be used, but I can’t get either to function.
If you already pay for Nord, why not just stick with Meshnet? It should do what you’re asking—linking your devices securely, like Tailscale does. But honestly, Tailscale is simpler to set up, especially with CGNAT. Nord can get complicated for no reason sometimes.
CGNAT is such a pain, man. I’ve used Tailscale on Plex, and it works fine for me. Maybe there’s an issue with port forwarding on your Shield box? Nord’s Meshnet is good, but I feel like Tailscale is more stable when working across platforms. Nord can be quirky.
Yeah, Meshnet can theoretically replace Tailscale, but it’s not as mature tech-wise. Nord’s feature feels a bit tacked on, like a side project. Tailscale, on the other hand, was built for stuff like this. If you’re already having issues with both, though, are you sure your network settings are set up right?
I tried Meshnet for a similar use-case—sharing files across devices—but it was kind of slow and unreliable. It’s cool that it comes bundled with Nord, but Tailscale blows it out of the water when it comes to ease of use.
Yo, NordVPN Meshnet is solid if you want an encrypted tunnel between devices, but it’s not perfect for CGNAT scenarios. Tailscale uses WireGuard, which handles NAT traversal better. If you already pay for NordVPN, you could try both, but Tailscale is usually more reliable.
Agree with the others here—Tailscale just handles weird network setups better. Meshnet is okay, but I’ve had random issues getting devices to find each other. Maybe Nord will improve it eventually, but Tailscale just works.

Did you check if local network discovery is enabled in both apps? That’s a big issue I ran into—forgot to enable that in Plex, and Tailscale wasn’t picking up anything. If both Meshnet and Tailscale aren’t working, the issue could be how Plex is configured.
Tbh, Tailscale with Plex is smoother once it’s set up. I think your Shield setup might just need some tweaking—Nord might not be worth the trouble if it’s giving you a hard time. But try both and see which one annoys you less.
