Is hotspotshield trustworthy?

I’m currently utilizing free VPNs; hotspotshield is known for being one of the quickest, but is it secure? The agreements state that the VPN has a 0 log policy yet is hosted in the United States.

No, it’s not known for that.
It markets itself similarly to others.
Check out Windscribe, Mullvad, IVPN, and Proton VPN (in no particular order) and review the features you need.
For example, Windscribe supports streaming, while Mullvad doesn’t (but it might still work).

You really shouldn’t, though; they can be terrible. Many of them turn your connection into an exit point for others, especially if they’re P2P-based like Hola or Bright. Imagine someone using your connection for something illegal.

I can’t afford a paid VPN right now, but I’m considering NordVPN for the future.

At the very least, look for a cashback deal or something similar because, in terms of privacy and quality, they’re not worth $40 for two years.

What about ProtonVPN? They have a free plan.

Please use Proton.

That’s the only free one I’d trust. The only downside is that the free version only has about three locations.

Proton isn’t exactly a “free VPN”; it’s primarily a paid service with a generous free tier, so yes, it can work as a free VPN. Windscribe also has a free tier. Some paid VPNs do this.
