What VPN should you use to avoid your parents from viewing your incognito history using your IP address?

My father can still monitor and view my incognito past, and he has chastised me for it several times.

I am not sure how, but it is probably tied to IP in some way.

So, what VPN do you guys propose to stop this?

And, before you ask, it’s for gaming stuff; my father believes gaming is bad, thus I’m not allowed to watch gaming videos like playthroughs, etc.

Also, it needs to be free, as I obviously cannot ask my parents for money haha.

Before recommending, just a heads-up: your dad might notice you’re using a VPN to bypass his monitoring, and that could cause issues. Also, depending on how strict the Wi-Fi setup is at home, the VPN might not work perfectly. With that said:
ProtonVPN is one of the best free options, and Cloudflare Warp is another solid one. Both are free but come with some limitations.

Feel free to ask if you need more info!

Thank you so much for the advice! I’m in college right now, so I don’t think my dad will notice. I’ll just wait until I’m back for the holidays to try it. Thanks again!

Man, that’s tough! :grimacing: If your dad’s tracking your IP or network activity, a VPN can definitely help mask your online behavior. Incognito mode only hides stuff from your local device, but your IP and browsing data are still visible to whoever controls the network (in this case, your dad). A VPN encrypts your data, so he won’t be able to see what you’re doing.

Yeah, VPN is the way to go for sure. Since you’re looking for a free option, there are a few, but keep in mind that most free VPNs have data caps and can be slower. Try ProtonVPN—they have a solid free plan, no data limits, and it’s pretty reliable. Just be aware that free VPNs can sometimes leak your IP, so make sure you’re using one with good security. :lock:

Also, remember that while a VPN will hide your IP, your dad might still be able to see how much data you’re using, depending on how tech-savvy he is. If he monitors the network traffic, he might notice spikes in usage. If you want to keep things on the down-low, try not to stream tons of stuff in one go. Just saying.

ProtonVPN is definitely a good choice. You could also look into Windscribe—they offer 10GB of free data each month. Just be sure to connect to servers in a different country for better privacy. But like User 3 said, even with a VPN, if he’s checking network activity in general, he might still see data usage spikes or wonder why he can’t see your browsing history anymore.
