Is there a way to make a VPN just function in VirtualBox? I do not want my internet activities outside of the virtual machine to be connected to a VPN. I do not want the VPN servers to know what I am doing outside of the sandbox. I want my usual activities outside of the sandbox to go to my ISP’s servers and everything I do inside the virtual machine to go to the VPN’s servers.

Just install a VPN directly on the virtual machine.

For extra privacy, try disabling the VirtualBox Host-Only Network Adapter on your main OS. That way, the VM will only connect through the VPN, with no accidental routing back to your normal ISP.

If you want to be 100% certain, you could also use Whonix or Tails OS inside the VM. That way, even if something leaks, it’s going through anonymized networks like Tor.

Try using Qubes OS if you want full compartmentalization between your activities. It lets you sandbox everything, including VPN use, for maximum control.
Also, remember that for NAT connections, the host OS will still see the VM’s traffic—so make sure to monitor your firewall rules to prevent any accidental leakage.
