Veee stopped working for four months for me while I was in the US. I couldn’t log in on iOS, Android, the desktop app, or their website. They basically blocked my subscription for four months and didn’t give me an extra four months. I can’t get a refund from Apple because it’s past the refund timeline. Super frustrating. When I contacted their support, they first said their VPN sometimes has problems in China, but when I told them I was in the US, they switched to saying it sometimes doesn’t work outside of China.

I’m looking for a new VPN after using Astrill since I arrived here. I’m considering either LetsVPN or Mullvad VPN.

Which one should I choose? I care more about the reliability of the VPN and how many devices I can use it on. Speed isn’t my main concern. I’d really appreciate any help I can get.

Do Psiphon, nthLink, or Proton work well?

Astrill still works, right? Last time I tried it, it worked really well on my laptop but not on my iOS or mobile devices. Are there other VPNs that function well on iOS?

I’m heading to Southeast Asia next week and will be in China starting in November, so I thought I should buy a VPN before I leave the US. I just paid for two 3-month subscriptions for LetsVPN—one for my MacBook and iPhone, and the other for my Android and iPad. Only my Android seems to be working. The MacBook disconnects from the internet when I turn on the VPN. Any suggestions for iOS? Should I try Mullvad? I’ll be in Yunnan, Sichuan, and Guangdong provinces, have you had any luck with other VPNs there?

Hi, I just got back from China and tried three VPNs:

  1. ExpressVPN: Don’t even bother, it didn’t work once. I’ll ask for my money back.

  2. Astrill: Supposed to be the best, but really expensive now. However, it has bugs on my phone and crashes on my laptop often. It works sometimes.

  3. Mullvad: To my surprise, it works great and is much cheaper than Astrill. I would definitely recommend it!

Also, the eSIM works really well. With Mullvad and the eSIM, I could stay in touch with my family while I was in China.

I’m going to China for the first time in a week and I’m a bit stressed trying to get everything ready. I just want to take my phone, tablet, and Steam Deck.

What VPN do I need? I know my phone has a dual SIM feature, will that help? I keep hearing Nord and Express aren’t helpful, so what should I rely on?

@Breck
If you’re willing to pay the high roaming fees, a foreign SIM card should be enough to avoid the Great Firewall. Otherwise, buy a local SIM card for web access; you will need a VPN then. Strictly speaking, it’s not a VPN; they usually rely on other tools like Shadowsocks.

My family and I will be in Shanghai for two weeks. After some research, I plan to use Astrill.
Since we have four devices:

1 iPhone
1 MacBook
2 Android devices

Is one account enough for all four?

We don’t plan to do much online, just Gmail, our university website from Austria, and WhatsApp.

Is that the safest option? Or would you recommend another VPN?

I just arrived on September 22, 2024. ExpressVPN can connect but has many dropped connections and poor performance. I’m currently connected to Hong Kong. I’ve had some success connecting to the UK, but the same issues happen. I couldn’t connect to any US servers. I have Astrill as a backup, but it needs me to uninstall ExpressVPN since they can’t run together.

Coming from a Chinese person, the best way to bypass restrictions is to use a Shadowsocks proxy service that has been around for a while, so you don’t get scammed. yyoos.com is recommended.

Dashlane VPN

I’m looking into Password Managers and Dashlane has a VPN. I want to know if anyone is using it in China and how it works.

I heard that the AI on LetsVPN can ban you for downloading games and larger files.

I bought the premium version. Will I still get banned for playing a game on the VPN or is it just for downloads?

I’m in Shanghai and I recommend using Veee VPN.

Does Astrill work? I mainly need it for my social media apps.

It’s my go-to VPN, and I set it up on my router, so everything in my home has unrestricted internet access.

It’s more expensive than other options, but since I paid for a subscription over two years ago, I haven’t had any issues blocking my internet access. It’s worth it in my opinion.

Will ExpressVPN work okay?

No, it hasn’t been working in China for quite a while now.

Thank you. You were right. It worked sometimes, but only for a minute or two before shutting down.
