I’m having a frustrating issue with my setup. Here’s the deal: I’m using Windows 11 with internet from Wi-Fi, and I’ve got another router connected via a LAN jack to stream to my Quest 3 headset.
To give the headset its own internet access, I set up a network bridge between the Wi-Fi and LAN connections. Everything seems to work fine until I try connecting to a server with Private Internet Access (PIA). When I do, I lose all internet access. The PIA client shows a local IP and a green light, but it never gets a VPN IP. All three connections (LAN, Wi-Fi, and PIA) say “no internet access” in the Windows toolbar.
After a few minutes, PIA keeps trying to reconnect, but it doesn’t work and never shows a VPN IP.
In the PIA client, I have LAN access enabled, and all kill switch settings turned off. No multihop either.
I even tried split tunneling to bypass the VPN, but it didn’t let Chrome connect either. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Sounds like a classic case of “too many cooks in the kitchen!” Maybe your computer is confused. Have you tried unplugging the LAN jack and letting it breathe? It could be a VPN issue or maybe Windows is just playing hard to get. Have you tried shouting “Internet, I summon thee!” while dancing in front of your PC?
Greg, that’s exactly what I did last time my Wi-Fi was acting up! But in all seriousness, check if your firewall is blocking the PIA connections. Sometimes, it gets a little too protective!
Firewall? More like fire-fall! It’s always raining troubles in tech land. Also, have you updated your PIA client? Sometimes, they just need a little love!
I had a similar issue. Try disabling your LAN bridge temporarily. Connect directly to Wi-Fi first, then connect PIA. Once it gets a VPN IP, you can re-enable the bridge. Sometimes a little “me time” does wonders!
