Looking for the best VPN for Netflix and streaming services like Disney and Hulu

I need a VPN that actually works and doesn’t get immediately blocked by popular streaming sites like Netflix, Disney Plus, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and others. I’ve tried some and I’m tired of wasting money only to find out that the VPN gets detected and I can’t access Netflix from other countries. I already tried Nord VPN, Express, and TunnelBear so please don’t recommend those. Are there any VPN services that people haven’t already overused that will let me access these platforms?

Did you use Nord, Express, and PIA with each of those streaming services you listed (Netflix, Disney, Hulu) one at a time? I’d be really surprised if those VPNs were blocked by each service. This usually happens with free VPNs but if it’s a paid one, it would be worrying if it was blocked across the board no matter which connection you use. You might want to look for a lesser-known VPN that isn’t mentioned much here and see if it stays under the radar.

I’m using NordVPN and I’ve mostly been happy with it. However, I don’t use it for streaming, so I can’t really speak on that. How many different locations have you tried with Nord? Sometimes you have to switch it up a few times to find one that works.

If nothing works, you could check out those free movie streaming sites to watch shows and movies from anywhere. The quality is usually 1080p, but the biggest downside is the constant ads.

Nord VPN hasn’t been good for a while now. They are slow to add new IPs and are just too widely used. Either go for one that’s known to work, or set up your own VPS. Or just use an illegal streaming site on the clearnet.

I hate to break it to you, but a lot of big-name VPNs typically get blocked by Netflix and other services. It’s not a knock on the VPNs themselves; it mainly happens because a lot of users abuse these services and they quickly catch on to the IPs that show up frequently.

That being said, there are still VPNs that might work - like Surfshark, Mullvad, and PureVPN have worked for me when I last checked. But watch out, some of these can also get blocked depending on how many other people have used that IP. There usually are more ways to access content, though. I still find a way to watch my shows even if my VPN fails sometimes.

If you’re on a budget and want something that works well for streaming, Surfshark is a good choice. I use it to access Netflix Japan and Hulu, and I’ve had no issues so far. It’s less than $5 a month if you choose a long-term plan, and you can connect as many devices as you want. Their servers in Tokyo and LA seem to be reliable, but of course, anything can change at any time.

I also think that as VPNs become more popular, streaming sites will have to find a way to allow them.

I’m not sure how tech-savvy you are, but I set this up myself. I got a cheap virtual private server from Vultr and created my own OpenVPN server. Since it’s my personal IP, Netflix has no idea I’m using a VPN. It takes some effort upfront, but you can do it for under $5 a month, and it’s very reliable. If you’re willing to learn a bit, this is a long-lasting fix and I think it’s better than using a popular VPN.

Honestly, this is probably the safest method. It takes a little work, but by doing this, you can pretty much guarantee access to streaming sites from almost any place. With most VPNs, it’s just a matter of time before the streaming services crack down (though certain providers do manage to get around Netflix’s blocks).

I have found Surfshark to be the most reliable for these kinds of sites. I went through a phase where I had to try a lot of different VPNs with Netflix before I finally found one that worked.

If you’ve already tried the popular ones, maybe it’s time to find something more niche. I’ve been using VyprVPN for a few months, and their Chameleon protocol has worked great for getting around Netflix blocks. I’ve streamed stuff from Canada, the UK, and even Japan without any problems. The app could be better, but the streaming performance is worth it. Plus, they are not as crowded as Nord or Express, so you’re less likely to get flagged.

Even if you manage to find a VPN that works with Netflix or any other streaming site, it won’t last forever. Eventually, any VPN that works will be used too much, and the service will block requests coming from that VPN.

Windscribe and Torguard were pretty good for this a while ago, but they might not work now. I don’t really understand the point of using VPNs for streaming though. You can just pirate the stuff online or use a site like Popcorn Time. Honestly, how often will that show or movie you want not be available in your country on Netflix?

I’ve been using Surfshark since 2022 for this reason, and it’s worked well for me. I’ve tried other VPNs in the past too, and most of them connected fine. I don’t get how you tried all those VPNs and none worked. Maybe you weren’t connecting properly?

@Olin
I rarely use a VPN these days, but I have a three-year subscription to Surfshark, and anytime I needed to connect to a site that’s blocked in my country, it worked perfectly. So, I can definitely recommend this one too. I’ve heard Mullvad is the best for privacy overall.

You could buy proxy servers from certain websites; they are a lot less likely to be blocked compared to VPNs that everyone uses. Using these is not too hard either. A self-hosted proxy is another option if you decide not to use a VPN. If you really want a VPN, stick to PureVPN, Surfshark, or PIA.

My go-to VPN has been Express. I know a lot of people dislike it since it’s pushed by influencers, but it has been pretty reliable for me. Though, I’ll admit I haven’t used it much for streaming in the past year. For other purposes, it works great, so I’d assume it would be good for Netflix, Hulu, and others.
