Today, I had the misfortune of having to upgrade ProtonVPN. I had been utilizing protonvpn-cli as part of a bash script on startup, but I can’t do so anymore because the CLI version no longer exists. I don’t like the GUI version since I’ve found it to be quite sluggish and prone to crashing on startup with “Gtk:ERROR:…/…/…/…/gtk/gtkcssinheritvalue.c:33:gtk_css_value_inherit_free: code should not be reached”. Is there any way to get the CLI version back? If not, I might just create my own CLI client; does ProtonVPN support third-party clients?
The old CLI version is not officially maintained at this time, however we want to provide an upgraded version in the future. If you have any problems with the native client, please notify us through the app so that our technical support staff can assist you appropriately: How to report an issue in Proton VPN | Proton
What you don’t like the gui that looks like a blind 3rd grader made it in ms paint?
Ugh, I’ve been stuck with the old CLI version forever! It feels like I’m living in the Stone Age over here. When’s the update dropping?
Right?! I was just thinking the same thing! I love Proton, but the CLI is giving me major headaches. It’s like they just left us hanging! Anyone else having issues with it?
Same here! I’ve reached out to support a few times. They’re cool, but I just wish they’d prioritize the CLI fix. I mean, c’mon, Linux users need love too!
No kidding! Linux users unite! I know we’re the minority, but we deserve a solid VPN experience too! I tried contacting support, but I got the “we’re working on it” vibe. Like, come on!
Haha, I feel you! It’s like waiting for a bus that never shows up. I even considered switching to another VPN just to escape this CLI nightmare! But I really like Proton’s privacy policy.
I hear ya! I think I’ll stick with Proton too, but man, they need to step it up. Maybe we should start a petition or something?
