Is a VPN really necessary for streaming

Hey everyone I’m new here and I have Amazon TV using TeaTV for watching movies in the US I’m curious if it’s really necessary to use a VPN Have there actually been any arrests or jail time for people streaming from home Owning a Firestick or Amazon TV is not illegal so what are the chances they’re going through the effort of tracking your IP seeing your streaming and getting a warrant for your home Seems unlikely but I’m here to learn from those who have been doing this for a while thanks

Using a VPN is really important for streaming with TeaTV on Amazon TV Even though arrests for streaming are rare a VPN helps protect your privacy and stops your ISP from slowing down your connection Avoid free VPNs because they often cause buffering and have security issues It’s better to invest in a reliable paid VPN for a smooth and safe streaming experience

Check out this blog about whether you really need a VPN It should help you decide in about 5 minutes: https://firestickhacks.com/why-you-need-a-vpn-for-firestick/

This comment is empty but I can share more insights if needed

Check out real-debrid, stremio and torrentio plus other free add-ons Real-debrid is $10 for three months and it lets you stream from cached torrents in different qualities You can also download directly from the real-debrid website without worry Your ISP sees a big data packet coming in but doesn’t know if it’s Netflix or regular web traffic Best money I spent and I even got a year’s subscription

Edit: Here’s a helpful link from this forum to help you get the most out of real-debrid this forum link

Better not be because I’m also sharing this info

As someone who was taken to court by Comcast and had a $2,500 judgment I strongly recommend a VPN I use Express VPN

Typical Comcast behavior lol Guess it’s time for me to stop putting this off and get a VPN

I was using an RFT appliance before the coax cable went into their Comcast box The RFT appliance opened up all channels with just a basic cable subscription They sent a signal down the network that would disable their box if it detected the RFT appliance You bring in the box for replacement not knowing about this and they already have all the evidence they need They got a lot of us that month

@Holt
I don’t think a VPN would have helped with this situation

You’re right but the cost of a VPN is small compared to a civil court case so I’m not taking any chances now

Same here I didn’t go to court with Comcast but it was the torrent troll law firm

Just download ProtonVPN It’s free in the Amazon app store As long as you aren’t downloading torrents and just streaming you won’t need to pay and you’ll be protected

So if you download torrents they cut you off

@Noor
ProtonVPN isn’t free for torrenting You can’t connect to their P2P servers without paying Only the non-torrenting servers are free

It’s 2024 and privacy is pretty much gone Malicious attacks are on the rise in every way possible A VPN is literally the least you should be using Don’t just think about streaming Think about your phone laptop desktop router anywhere you can apply this Start learning about DNS There are free ways for added protection or check out ControlD which is amazing Protect yourself and avoid becoming a statistic Technically when you use debrid services like Real Debrid you don’t really need a VPN but why take the chance Let them have your data Although they don’t log it

Data brokers can really mess up lives think about identity theft Yes everyone should protect themselves regardless of what anyone says here I work as a developer in OSINT and cybersecurity tools and I have seen so much nonsense

Finally make sure you choose a good VPN None of the ones promoted by Fire Stick or YouTube content creators are secure They get paid a lot to promote them I know because I used to do that along with custom builds since 2016 and also reselling IPTV

Look for a VPN that’s in the 5 9 14 eyes agreement and has the latest protocols and ports Don’t settle for gimmicky garbage Good luck and please just get a VPN it’s the least you can do Then learn about DNS which can be done in 10 minutes even without tech experience With just these two steps you can protect yourself a lot Of course there are other tools out there to help as well as free software but for now start with these two things and you’ll be fine as an average person who isn’t being targeted Best of luck
