Hello, has anyone fixed the problem with split tunneling with Discord? Split tunneling does not work with Discord when I try to launch it. I choose discord and the file update.exe. Still doesn’t work.
Oh man, I’ve had the same issue with Discord and split tunneling. It’s super annoying! I use NordVPN, and for some reason, Discord just doesn’t play well with split tunneling. Even when I add Discord and update.exe to the exceptions, it still routes everything through the VPN.
Yeah, I feel you. I had this issue too. What VPN are you using? Some VPNs handle split tunneling better than others. With ExpressVPN, I had to add both the Discord app and Discord update.exe to the split tunneling list. Make sure you’re launching the app after adding it to the split tunnel list; otherwise, it won’t work.
Sometimes it’s also about how the VPN client handles the traffic. When I had this problem with Surfshark, I ended up using the “Bypass VPN” feature instead of the usual split tunneling. That way, the VPN ignores all Discord traffic. Give that a try if your VPN has a similar setting!
Also, check if Discord’s voice servers are being routed through the VPN even though the app isn’t. It might be that part of the traffic is still sneaking through the VPN, and Discord’s connection is getting confused. Try restarting your router and VPN after setting up split tunneling. That sometimes resets things.
Make sure you’re selecting both the app and the update file—sometimes VPNs require you to manually input the file path instead of just clicking on the app in the split tunneling settings. I had to go into Windows Explorer and find Discord’s actual install location to make it work with my VPN. It’s a bit tedious but worth it.
