AirVPN Thinking About Buying AirVPN Am I Making a Mistake

I’m in Canada with a 50 Mbps connection and want to primarily download audio-visual content. Is AirVPN a good choice? Are there any warnings I should know about? Are there better options at a similar price? Thanks in advance!

As a Linux and Docker user, AirVPN is easy for me.

I don’t care about a fancy web interface. I just want it to work. I find it easy to start my Gluetun and qBittorrent stack, and AirVPN does that for me.

I don’t use an app to connect, even when I’m not using Docker; as a Linux user, I just use WireGuard which is built into NetworkManager.

@Ezri
I don’t get all that but I appreciate your input. :slight_smile:

With a 50 Mbps connection, AirVPN should work well for you.

Yes, AirVPN is a solid choice.

Be careful to bind your VPN and set up port forwarding.

I don’t think there are better options at the same price.

I use and love AirVPN.

Is AirVPN secure?

Have you considered Proton?

I just signed up last night after my Mullvad license ran out. The interface isn’t great, but the functionality surpasses Mullvad for low seeder torrents.

I think I managed to bind it to qBittorrent correctly, but I’m not completely sure. It felt easier with Mullvad.

@Jonas
The interface isn’t a big deal if you use the WireGuard or OpenVPN clients directly.

I’m a bit confused, what exactly is WireGuard? When I looked it up, it seemed like another VPN. Is that used with AirVPN?

@Jonas
WireGuard and OpenVPN are two protocols for connecting to your VPN provider like AirVPN.

The VPN provider’s app helps manage connections by integrating these protocols, adding features like server selection. However, you can bypass the app by downloading WireGuard or OpenVPN config files and using their standalone apps. This gives you more stability but requires some manual setup.

@Pacey
How can I bind qBittorrent to AirVPN? I’m pretty new. I’ve set up WireGuard, but I want qBittorrent to stop if the VPN disconnects. Is that what binding means?

Yes, you can do that in qBittorrent settings. Go to the last tab and select the VPN interface instead of ‘Any.’

@Pacey
Thanks! I’ll look more into it. Not sure if it’s necessary but I’ll take a look. Do you prefer one over the other?

WireGuard is usually preferred due to lower resource usage and slightly better security.

@Jonas
Thanks for the fast reply.

@Jonas
I second this. Check my comment and post history here. I switched to AirVPN recently and while the interface is outdated, it really works. I’m a beginner too and found it easy to bind to qBittorrent following their guides. This company prioritizes functionality over looks, which is fine by me. I prefer being the attractive one in the relationship anyway.

@Mika
Haha! That’s a fun way to see it. I’m hoping I did the binding right. Did you go with WireGuard?

I’m using AirVPN’s software on my PC. I haven’t set it up on my mobile yet, but I think I’ll use OpenVPN because it looks easier to set up. I’m open to opinions from others.

I’m getting very poor speeds with AirVPN.
